A Goddess and Her Little Goddess -Lynn's Story
"Day is done and night is near,
Off to sleep now, baby dear..
Come, dream,
Come to baby, come.."
-Lynn sang her little angel Chloe to sleep.
Counting her wee fingers,
peering at that cute button nose,
Lynn smiled to herself and thought,
"Doesn't she just complete out lovely family..."
as she walked out to the balcony for
her last cigarette of the day.
"Mommy, when i grow up, i want to be just like you!"
Chloe chimed as she played dress-up with Lyn's old jewellery.
Every afternoon, Lynn would leave Chloe to dall up in her princess
fantasies, while she sneaked out to the balcony for yet another smoke,
away from the eyes of darling Chloe-she doesn't need to know.
Sometimes she wished she did'nt smoke, so she'd had nothing to hide.
Before Chloe was born five years ago,
Lynn stubbed out her smoking habit.
For the sake of her baby's health,
for the most precious gift of Life. But only 11 months.
After Chloe's arrival, Lynn started smoking again. Secretly.
Never did she expect that little eyes observed her every move.
"Mommy's going out for a while to get you some sweets, OK?"
A small lie sliped out of Lynn as she left Chloe to play.
With ribbons and bows, glitter and flowers in colours of the rainbow.
Lynn dropped her bag of candy when she entered the playroom.
With a pink crayon in hand, lifted to her cherry lips,
"I look just like you, Mommy, righy? You do this every day."
Chloe smiled as she mimicked the way Lynn smoked.
Crayon for cigarette, daughter like mother.
Lynn knew what she had to do.
She had to quit. For herself
and for the biggest love of
her life.
Cravings are nothing next to the painful thought of
Chloe taking after her.
Her horrible smoking habits that will
rob Chloe of her future.
"Mommy, when i grow up, i want to be
just like you!"
Chloe burried her face in
Lynn's hair as they hugged.
"Mommy smells so much nicer
now without those white sticks."
Lynn smiled the widest smile ever
and knew she made the right choice.
'Smoking doesn't just harm you,
but your loved ones as well.'
